Best medication reminder apps in 2026, and the ones that shut down

What a reminder app can and cannot do

A medication reminder app is a scheduling tool. It can prompt you at the right time, keep a log of doses taken or skipped and give you a list to show a pharmacist. It does not know whether the list is complete or current; that still depends on your prescriptions and the conversations you have with your care team.

We checked each app’s official store listing or support page on September 28, 2026. Several apps that still appear in older “best of” lists are no longer available, so start with the table below.

1. Apple Health Medications — best for iPhone users

The Medications feature in Apple’s Health app lets you add medications by name, or with the camera in the US, set schedules including cyclical and specific-day routines, and log each dose as taken or skipped. In the US it can flag interactions between listed medications, and you can export a PDF of your list.

Follow Up Reminders can prompt again 30 minutes after a missed dose, and Critical Alerts can sound even when your phone is silenced. It is free and keeps data in the Health app rather than with a third party.

2. Medisafe — the most established cross-platform choice

Medisafe works on iPhone and Android, including smartwatches, and had a 4.7 rating from about 101,000 App Store ratings when we checked. It includes drug-interaction warnings, refill reminders and syncing of family members’ medications in one place. The core app is free, with an optional Premium subscription, which makes it a sensible choice for households where not everyone uses an iPhone.

3. MyTherapy — reminders plus a health diary

MyTherapy, from smartpatient, pairs reminders with a symptom and pain diary and tracking of measurements such as blood pressure and weight, which can help when you are tracking how a new medication affects you. Its website describes the app as free; the store listings also show optional ad-free and lifetime upgrades.

4. CareClinic — for broader health tracking

CareClinic combines medication reminders with symptom, mood and activity tracking. It is free with in-app purchases and suits people who want one app for a wider care plan.

Android users: there is no built-in equivalent

Android does not currently have a native medication reminder comparable to Apple’s. Fitbit’s app became the Google Health app in May 2026, and Android’s Health Connect platform does not include a medication or dose data type. On Android, choose a dedicated app such as Medisafe, MyTherapy or CareClinic.

Apps that have shut down or disappeared

Older articles still recommend apps that are no longer available. If you rely on one of these, move your list to a current app and keep a written copy.

1. CareZone: Walmart acquired its medication-management technology in 2020, and the consumer app is no longer offered.
2. Mango Health: no longer listed in the app stores.
3. Round Health: no longer found in the US App Store.
4. Dosecast: removed from the iOS App Store; an Android version remained on Google Play but was last updated in August 2025.

Privacy: consumer apps are not your doctor’s office

HIPAA generally applies to healthcare providers, health plans and their business associates, not to apps you download for yourself. Many consumer health apps are instead covered by the Federal Trade Commission’s Health Breach Notification Rule, which requires notice if your health data is disclosed without authorization. Read an app’s privacy policy before entering your full medication history, and check whether it shares data for advertising.
